A picture of the Pinkerton barges burning in the Monongahela River after the Pinkertons failed to force their way into the Homestead Works during the 1892 Homestead Strike. Following a shootout with strikers that left 7 workers and 3 Pinkertons dead, the Pinkertons surrendered and were led away by the strikers. The striking workers then looted the barges and burned them to the waterline.
