Lidija Meškaitytė was a self-taught artist. Having suffered a physical trauma in her youth, she could not walk for a long time and was of poor health for her entire life. She spent the years from her youth to her old age at her parent’s farmstead in the village of Antšvenčiai (in the Jurbarkas district). From 1952 she started participating in art exhibitions. She painted landscapes, rural scenes, portraits and still lifes. Her authentic and original creative style was formed in isolation, with no knowledge of professional art or influences from the outside world. The harmony of colours in L. Meškaitytė’s miniatures is particularly well considered and sensitive. Her works are known for their clear composition, the author’s watercolour technique and exceptional craftsmanship. In her tiny paintings, the artist depicted birds, insects, mushrooms, berries and leaves with precise accuracy, conveying every motif with love. This miniature is a highlight for the magical beauty of simple reality.
