Description: One of Forain’s many works depicting the world of ballet and ballet dancers, Bust of Diana, with its quick, fluid strokes of pastel color, displays the sense of graceful yet electrifying movement that embodies the world of ballet. The figure was most likely inspired by the popular Parisian ballet, Sylvia ou La Nymphe de Diane, in which the character of Diana, the Roman goddess of the hunt and chastity, played a major role.
