This bust of Marie Antoinette in Carrara marble was exhibited in Paris in 1779. The sculptor Joseph Fernande brought it with him to the court of Maria Theresa, who became his patron and sent him to Rome to further his artistic studies. On the socle are four medallions portraying the French queen’s four children.
