"In December 1929, Sitges Town Hall promoted the initiative of dedicating a monument to Santiago Rusiñol, with the proposal receiving the approval of all the local inhabitants.
The monument was originally placed in the Racó de la Calma, an area in front of the Cau Ferrat and Maricel Museums, and it was uncovered on 12 June 1932, the first anniversary of the artist’s death.
The bust was commissioned to the sculptor Joan Borrell Nicolau, born in Barcelona, in 1888. Borrell combined his wok in the studios belonging to Enric Clarasó and Agapit Vallmitjana with his studies at the Escola de Llotja. He continued his training in París, where he met the maximum representatives of international sculpture at that time."
