Rapper/actor Busta Rhymes, born Trevor George Smith Jr., got his start with Leaders of the New School, a Long Island crew who were part of the Native Tongues collective. The Leaders toured with Public Enemy, and Rhymes found breakout success after being featured on ATCQ’s 1992 hit “Scenario.” Rhymes wore this clothing in the music video for his debut solo single “Woo Hah!! Got You All in Check.” The quintessential hit reached Number Eight on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “My voice was always what it was. My moms always told me when I was born I sounded like a little dinosaur,” Rhymes recalls. “The attitude, the charisma, the showmanship, and the animation, that always was a part of who I was. I'm of Jamaican descent, so reggae and dancehall culture, this is what I was raised on. Even watching rock bands, back in the day, the way them dudes would perform, jumping off of sh*t and laying down on the stage? I always wanted to be a part of those big, over the top moments. That's just a part of my personality.”
