Gwanja, also referred to as gwonja, is a small ring that is tied with a string to both sides of horsehair-woven headbands. The materials for these rings vary based on the wearer’s status: gold and jade were used for first- to third-rank officials, while sea turtle shells, sheep or bull horns, amber, and cloudy amber were used for fourth- or lower rank officials and commoners.
