Photograph of Buxton Opera House when it was operating as a cinema. The sign above the door is advertising the film '15 Maiden Lane' which was released in 1936.

Buxton Opera House was designed by Frank Matcham and opened in 1903. It was initially a live theatre venue before becoming a cinema in 1927. It continued showing films and theatre productions until the 1970s but was in a poor state of repair. The Opera House was restored and reopened in 1979, with a new orchestra pit added to the original Frank Matcham design. Further restoration over the years has maintained and enhanced its Edwardian splendour.
