In this watercolour by Alfredo Moraes, Pilgrimage of Our Lady of Agonia (Viana do Castelo), we witness a scene from a typical pilgrimage in the Minho province, in North-western Portugal: different figures in local costumes at the front, as well as the ox cart and a seller of pottery; the church where the populace is headed remains on the background.
This work makes justice to the illustrative inclination of rural scenes and popular types in lively colours and plebeian taste by the aquarellist who was disciple to Ramalho and Alfredo Keil.
