This cabinet is one of two that Mackintosh designed for the living room of Mrs. Robert J. Rowat’s Glasgow house where the cabinets were placed side-by-side with their doors open, showing their stunning
interiors. The doors are lined with silver foil inlaid with coloured glass in a stylized design of a lady holding a rose. These door panels were probably designed by Mackintosh’s wife the artist Margaret Macdonald (Scottish, 1865 - 1933) who was to collaborate with her husband. Mackintosh had two virtually identical cabinets made for his own house.
