In line with the vogue for chinoiserie, new methods were developed for imitating Asian lacquered furniture. In this cabinet, hand-coloured engravings were glued onto a polychrome lacquered ground and then covered in a final step with an even layer of varnish. The source materials were engravings and special cutout sheets in a Chinese Style.
