Caesar Borgia (1475-1507) was the son of Pope Alexander VI, he was made Bishop of Pamplona, Archbishop of Valencia and eventually became Cardinal and Captain General of the Vatican army. Machiavelli drew inspiration from him in depicting the key figure in his literary work The Prince.
