Mrs. Polly Payne, a member of Armstead Walker's family and the Walkers' adopted daughter, was the household manager and cooked all the meals. She used this mixing bowl and the Angel food pans for baking and making desserts. It was also here in the kitchen that family took most of its casual meals, reserving the dining room for formal occasions.
