Editha (Ditha) Mautner-Markhof studied at Vienna’s School of Applied Arts, where she met artist and designer, Koloman Moser. The two fell in love and married in 1905. Between 1906 and 1913 she created striking graphic designs, including a set of tarot cards that remains popular today. She also designed calendars, which were probably intended as gifts for family and close friends. This calendar for 1911 is formatted like an accordion, or a leporello, and features illustrations of Norse deities. Printed in metallic gold and black by Brüder Rosenbaum of Vienna, any functional intentions appear subservient to the highly stylized treatment of the graphics and decorative elements.
