This ferrous caltrop is one of three military artifacts from the Tecumseh Park archaeological assemblage. Of these, the caltrop and a lead buck shot are War of 1812 artifacts likely deposited on October 4, 1813 during a skirmish prior to the Battle of the Thames. Tecumseh Park is a large public park in the City of Chatham, located at the confluence of the Thames River and McGregor Creek. It was investigated by TMHC between 2011 and 2013 as part of the Municipality’s War of 1812 commemorations.
