Vice President Calvin Coolidge (standing) on the podium at the Nov. 1, 1921 Liberty Memorial site dedication.
This occasion was the first time in history that the five Allied commanders from World War I were gathered together in once place. Gen. Jacques of Belgium, Gen. Armando Diaz of Italy, Marshal Ferdinand Foch of France, Gen. John J. Pershing, Adm. David Beatty of Great Britain, along with Coolidge, were all in Kansas City for the American Legion Convention and the dedication of the Liberty Memorial (now the National WWI Museum and Memorial.)
