José Monge Cruz "Camarón de la Isla" was born in San Fernando (Cádiz) in 1950. From a very young age he sang in the bars of San Fernando and at private parties. He became a professional at the age of 16 with the flamenco companies of Miguel de los Reyes and Dolores Vargas. He recorded his first album accompanied by the guitar of Paco de Lucía, and together they began a path of stylistic innovation in the art of flamenco.
Camarón de la Isla is perhaps the most personal singer of the new generation of flamencos. His duende is evident in every song, making him a unique singer who has gone down in history on his own merits. The legendary album "La leyenda del tiempo", also recorded with Paco de Lucía, marked a "before and after" in the world of flamenco.
