Inventor Edwin Land devised instant photography and began selling cameras in 1948. In the 1960's his Polaroid Corporation hired the Henry Drefuss industrial design firm and the result was the Polaroid 100 Land Camera in 1962, followed by the Polaroid Swinger in 1964. Accompanied by an unforgettable television ad, the Swinger became the best-selling instant camera of all time and possibly the best-selling camera, period. It was manufactured in such numbers that few records exist. Bold graphic design and an inexpensive price added to its popularity.
