The Aunty Jack Show was first broadcast on ABC television in 1972 and was followed by a second series in 1973. The gravel-voiced, motorbike-riding Aunty Jack proved a hit, winning a Logie Award for best television comedy in 1974.
Colour television was not introduced to Australia until 1 March 1975, three years after Aunty Jack made her first appearance on the air. The show was so popular that it was Aunty Jack to introduce colour television to Australia at midnight (actually, controversially, a couple of minutes before the agreed midnight) to Australian audiences.
Grahame Bond was producer and director of the show, and played the role of Aunty Jack (centre), alongside Rory O'Donoghue as Thin Arthur (left) and Garry McDonald as Kid Eager (right).
