Decorated with the emblem of François I (1494–1547), this bronze cannon is a perfect example of the French artillery of the Renaissance. Indeed, its morphology is typical of the firearms created at this time. It is presented with two main sections: the reinforce, which is decorated on the back of the bearings here with a crowned salamander on an amulet with the motto Nutrisco et Extingo and the barrage, which is strewn with fleurs-de-lis. The breech has a stud decorated with petals on its base.
