Cannonballs and shot

English Heritage

English Heritage
United Kingdom

Stone and iron cannonballs were both used during the Civil War sieges of Scarborough Castle. The range of calibres recovered from the site (from a 5-inch, 7-pound stone shot to a 7½-inch, 56-pound iron shot) indicates some of the variety of weaponry available to both the attacking and defending forces. Small-bore bullets of lead provide evidence of musket use alongside the heavy weapons.
