This canoe was an extraordinary find. It was made from a single hollowed tree trunk that sailed along the channels of Tenochtitlan and the lake of Texcoco at the end of the fifteenth century. In spite of the fact that the Mexicas built an extensive chain of dikes to communicate the capital with the inland, the canoes were the most used mean of transportation. They were used to transport the food that were harvested in the chinampas, to distribute drinking water, carry out activities like fishing and aquatic hunt, in addition to transporting people. In short, the canoes were an indispensable element for the everyday activities of the inhabitants of the surrounding areas of the lake at the Basin of Mexico. Arqlga. Bertina Olmedo Vera
