Canonbury' design moquette sample

This moquette sample was manufactured by John Holdsworth & Co. The pattern has thick green and beige stripes overlaid with thinner brown stripes and a brown interlocking circle motif. It was designed by Marion Dorn, one of three artists chosen by London Transport Publicity Officer Christian Barman to create original designs for L.T. vehicles during the 1930s. The design, called Canonbury, was used on 1938 Tube stock which operated on the Northern line. The name refers to the station that was originally part of the Northern line that ran from Moorgate to Finsbury Park. Later, this line was transferred to the British Railways Board and became part of the Great Northern Electrics suburban service.
