Yugeon is a hat worn by Confucian scholars during the Joseon Dynasty and was made of black hemp, ramie, or cotton cloth. Since it resembled the Chinese character 民 (min) when its triangular side corners were folded in half, it was also called minjageon, which means a hat resembling character 民 (min). It was close in its design to brimless horsehair-woven official hat, and its two upper sides were slightly raised in the shape of a triangle. Two strings attached to either lower side were tied and fastened under the chin.
