Cape

Cape made from skins of about eighteen hyrax decorated round the neck with a few small beads. It is made by women and girls. The men kill the hyrax by catching them in the holes of trees in which they hide. They drop them to the ground to their waiting dogs which hold them. The men descend and pull their necks to kill them. THe skins are pegged on the ground to dry, cut to size and then sewn with tendons front the giant forest hog.Both men and women wear them because they are warm. Long ago everyone wore them instead of sheets. Girls do not wear them. Moran and pre-morans can wear them when they go to the forest. One lasts about seven years. Only ogiek wear these and a few maasai who have bought them from the Ogiek.
