The pilaster capital with a figure of a centaur,
datable to the end of the 11th century and coming from the church of Sant
'Eustorgio in Milan, is an example of the orientations of Romanesque sculpture
in Milan between the 11th and 12th centuries. On the capital is depicted
a centaur returning from hunting, playing a horn and holding a captured hare on
a branch. The remarkable narrative freshness with which the centaur is depicted
counteracts the fearsome nature of the figure, revealing a surprising,
naturalistic component
