On August 16, 1968, Intrepid was operating in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War. The crew took a break to gather on the flight deck in celebration of Intrepid’s 25th commissioning anniversary. Captain Vincent Kelley cut the cake, handing the first slices to the bakers who spent a week assembling this massive confection.
