McLoughlin Brothers late 19th century game What Was It? is a fairly unique question-guessing game. Think of it as a forerunner to today's Trivial Pursuit. Cards are marked with one question and several answers. Players are supplied the answers and must guess the question, to accumulate points. Like so many other late-19th century games, What Was It? is partly educational as well as entertaining. One reason for this is that it was very likely the parents, or another adult, who bought the game for a child.
