Card game "Happy Families" (box)

While the precursors of the Happy Families quartet game date back to the late 16th century, the first British Happy Families game was introduced in 1851. It originally consisted of 11 families with 4 family members each, which had to be collected. At J.W. Spear & Sons the game first appeareds at the beginning of the 20th century. The oversized heads of the acerbic caricatures of people, reminiscent of the art style of the 19th century games, are retained in later editions, even though in the 50s and 60s the drawing become a little friendlier and accessible for younger audiences.
