Netrunner is a 1996 collectible card game designed by Richard Garfield, best known for designing Magic: The Gathering, and published by Wizards of the Coast. The game takes place in the Cyberpunk 2020 role-playing game setting, but also draws from the larger Cyberpunk setting. A renewed version, Android Netrunner, was published by Fantasy Flight Games under license from Wizards of the Coast in 2012. Several fan-designed games have appeared, and online game play was, and still is, available for players. Initial critical reaction to Netrunner was overwhelmingly positive among serious gamers and within game review publications. Players have called it Garfield's best effort and the best collectible card game ever. Apparently sales never matched expectations, and in 2018 Fantasy Flight Games announced its partnership with Wizards of the Coast over Netrunner was ending, and it would no longer sell Netrunner products.
