During the late 19th and early 20th centuries many of the major game manufacturers produced educational games in which one player posed as the "teacher" or the "reader" and held the answers to questions printed on cards. The other players attempted to answer these correctly for point scoring. Types of questions varied from mathematics to general knowledge. Some parents probably considered play with these games more wholesome than simple play for fun. Milton Bradley continued to produced the games until the late 1930s, at least.
