Card game:The Beverly Hillbillies Set Back Card Game

Despite poor reviews from critics, The Beverly Hillbillies television sitcom ran successfully for nine seasons, from 1962 to 1971. In spite of consistently high Nielsen ratings, the show was cancelled in 1971 when, in search of younger audiences, CBS underwent its now famous "rural purge," and eliminated several programs with less than sophisticated themes. Like many popular television programs, the Hillbillies spawned a spin-off card game. The Beverly Hillbillies Set Back Card Game is an unusual simplified version of contract bridge, with the addition of chips representing points. Players must predict, like the contract in contract bridge, how many tricks they intend to win during a round. Special 'set back' cards allow for strategic winning hands. All the cards are marked for the four major characters in the hillbilly family, Jed, Granny, Ellie May, and Jethro.
