One of the most popular games of the late 19th century was Anagrams, a game that continued in various forms through the 20th century and which formed a precursor to today's Scrabble. The Game of Syllabus was an offshoot from regular Anagrams made by E.I.Horsman and copyrighted in 1879. Instead of making words with letters, players attempt to make words with syllables and partial words. Like so many other games of this period, Syllabus both educated and entertained.
