The game Logomachy or War of Words is related to the game Anagrams, which was (and is) produced by many different manufacturers. The object is to take a trick, or win a group of cards, by forming a word. Like Anagrams, Logomachy is a natural precursor to crossword puzzles, and to the game Scrabble. McLoughlin Brothers of New York produced this version, with an 1887 copyright. The box cover design is pure aesthetic period in its layered-wallpaper background and girl-on-a-leafy-swing foreground.
