In 1906 the Wallie Dorr Company of New York, builders of home pool tables, published a card game. Called "Touring," the game pitted players against each other in an imaginary road race. The game enjoyed immediate popularity, just as automobiles were beginning to capture the country's imagination. In 1925 game giant Parker Brothers purchased the rights to Touring and published it successfully until 1975.This example, by Parker, dates from 1926. Meanwhile, Touring fostered spin-off games in other countries. The best of these was the French game Mille Bornes (literally:1000 milestones). In 1975 Parker Brothers switched to publishing an American version of Mille Bornes instead of Touring. The game is still popular and played all over the world.
