The beverage 7up, known officially as Seven-Up, lost favor and popularity to cola beverages during the middle of the 20th century. To counter this, a successful ad campaign marketed the drink to people who believed themselves to be a part of what is now called the counter-culture. Besides this, the firm also targeted African Americans and other perceived minority groups then, with its still-famous "Uncola" campaign. The campaign focused on a drink that was unique, not just another run-of-the-mill cola. The firm sponsored a card game which centered around--and thus taught--the achievements of African Americans, playable by two or by larger teams. The cards are marked with the psychedelic designs that Seven-Up favored at the time.
