According to anecdotes of Toko Kuroda, the painter devoted himself to sketching carp he was keeping in his garden pond, and the majority of his works are paintings of carp indeed. A particularly outstanding item in the catalogue of Toko’s carp pictures, this highly dynamic depiction of several carp swimming in a shoal looks so real that the viewer feels as if looking into an actual pond. The work is a Tottori Prefectural designated cultural property.
