Museo Nacional de Arqueología Subacuática

Museo Nacional de Arqueología Subacuática
Cartagena, Spain

Wooden mallet used by shipbuilding carpenters. It was used to do minor running repairs on board. It has been dated as being from the 1st century B. C. and is from the Roman wreck of Punta de Algas, in La Manga del Mar Menor. Tools like this one, as well as many other items recovered from the same wreck or other similar wrecks, enable more knowledge to be gleaned about life on board during voyages
