Beal, who studied painting under William Merritt Chase in his early teens, would become heavily influenced by Chase’s style. Other influences include family friend Childe Hassam and later Maurice Prendergast. Beal was known for his excellent use of color and his willingness to experiment and change his style, which he did several times over his long career.
