José Antonio Navarro purchased his property at the corner of Nueva and Laredo for 100 pesos in 1832, but he did not stay regularly at the property until the mid-1850s. Between 1832 and 1855, while Navarro developed his ranching, trade, and political careers, his city homestead began to take shape.
