The case is realised with various types of woods, in part dyed and in part inlaid; the inside is upholstered insilk, with applications with carved ivory. The pairs of figures on the sides of the box represent elegant scenes while on the main sides of the lid are winged floating figures sustaining a disc, on the minor sides two emblems between shields and vegetal garlands. It is inspired by the artifacts made between XIV and XV century by the Embriachi atelier, imitated by Lombard ateliers, similar to this. In the shields, according to an inventary of 1473, should represent the emblem of the Pallavicino and of Coiro: maybe the donors of the case, but in the description the emblem of the Pallavicini was the only one left and todey it dissapeared. Arrived to the cathedral of Borgo, the case was used as a reliquary as the one said of the SS Marcellino and S. Giovanni in Laterano.
