An inscription on the reverse of this miniature identifies the subject as the widow of Charles Gordon Patterson, M.D., and notes that she was the mother of 10 children. Her son, also named Charles Gordon, was a railway entrepreneur. The miniature is in a Tiffany frame. The frame and inscription match that of WAM 38.493. This may depict the sitter's husband.
Lambdin studied with Thomas Wilcocks Sully (1811-1847), the renowned portraitist in Philadelphia, and established himself as a miniaturist in the same city.
