Catherine II greeted in Kaniv

Stanisław August hoped that the growing tension between Russia and Turkey in the 80. would bring an opportunity to improve the situation of the Republic. In exchange for participation in the war on the side of Russia, he wanted to obtain from Catherine II permission for reforms and to secure the territorial integrity of the state.
