Cattle Chain

Chain presented to President Eisenhower on his 64th birthday by 38 news correspondents that covered the temporary White House in Denver. Their names are engraved on four of the five plaques: Marvin Arrowsmith, William M. Blair, Lawrence H. Burd, Robert Clark, Ed Darby, Robert Donovan, James M. Flinchum Jr., Jack Foster, Jerry Greene, Martin Hayden, Robert Hess, Palmer Hoyt, Maurice Johnson, Carroll S. Linkins, Charles Lucey, William Macy, Ray Scherer, Jack Sutherland, Richard L. Wilson, George Herman, Garnett D. Horner, Edward Laker, Arthur Lodovichetti, John McDonald, John Rous, Merriman Smith, Ronald Weston, John Witaschek, Russell W. Baker, Lee Brown, Frank Cancellare, Thoman Craven, Jean Dubois, Nat S. Finney, Edward T. Folliard, Robert Hansen, and George Garriott. This chain came with an Angus calf named "Blackcap Bessie 13 TT" and nicknamed "Three Putt." The correspondents purchased the calf from B.G. "Billy" Byars, one of Eisenhower's cattle partners. An identical chain was also presented to George Allen, the third cattle partner.
