Originally, Hans Makart was commissioned with the painted decorations of the Hermesvilla. After his death, Julius Victor Berger prepared designs for scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream in accordance with Makart’s proposals for the cavetti in the bedroom of the empress, which were then executed by the Künstler-Compagnie. As a consequence, it is impossible to determine which of the three young artists painted which scene.
