Small wooden door in the corner of the room with worn wood floor.

Cellar trap doors, usually found in porches in homes of this era, often led to the root cellar. With a typical clay basement, it was a perfect cool dark place to keep goods for the winter before the age of refrigeration, without having to go outside. This is where Marilla would have stored her potatoes, russet apples, and preserves, including the infamous raspberry cordial!
