A non-figurative composition in which reality dematerializes, despite the reference to this in the title. The use of non-naturalistic colors, the planes which are cut short by thick lines on an almost gold background, the volumes and the shapes have been strongly outlined. All this relates to a non-naturalistic figuration characteristic of the artist at a time when he was advancing toward abstraction, already finalized by 1949. Fermín Aguayo, together with Lagunas and Laguardia, belonged to a group of artists who attempted to modernize the Spanish artistic language by utilizing abstraction as a form of artistic expression. They made themselves known under the name Grupo Pórtico with an exhibition held in Casino Mercantil in Zaragoza in 1947. The artist's career inexorably approached abstraction in 1948. It was a key year. In this piece the spatial compartmentalization of the color spots separated by thick black strokes still coexists with several expressionist
figurative references.
