Woven in the kesi(slit tapestry) technique, this badge features a mythical xiezhai, which identified the wearer as a court censor. The bold juxtapositions of bright colors seen on this example typify the Ming style in textile design. By the end of the Ming dynasty, however, many military officers wore this type of badge.
