Medium to large sized modeled ceramic whorl, of a Classic Period redware, that has a flattened disk shape. Polished brownish red surface is smooth and even with several small fireclouds. The edges of the perforation do not show heavy damage, although there is some general wear and the circumference of the whorl is abraded. The specimen is circular in plan, lenticular in cross-section. This specimen was recovered along with two sherd disk spindle whorls from a Civano Phase pithouse considered to have an intact floor assemblage. The pithouse was located in a habitation area at Pueblo Grande. Pueblo Grande was a large village site located at the headgates of a major canal system occupied as early as AD 500, through 1450.
