Ceremonial Jewish hat

An ornamental Jewish ceremonial hat made of red velvet and embroidered with convex silver thread. Some of the ornaments were made using a silver thread called “bajorek” i.e. a metal thread twisted into coils, and brass sequins. The hat has a cotton lining.
The Jewish law requires that men cover their heads as a sign of respect and fear of God when praying, saying a blessing, studying the Torah, visiting a synagogue, or a house of learning (yeshiva). The practice originated in the Biblical times when priests covered their heads during the service in the Temple.
